Description of Position
Project Manager for our Client will be tasked with the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations for assigned projects. Includes management of the following knowledge areas: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resource, Communication, Risk, and Procurement. Projects may include, but are not limited to, solutions development (technical and non-technical), building upgrades, strategy planning, bulk resource moves, regulatory.
The Project Manager will be responsible for managing small and medium size projects. Under general supervision the Project Manager will be responsible for the management of projects of a larger or more complex, high risk nature.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Project Management:
* Responsible for asse
mbling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed and developing the project plan and schedule to ensure timely completion of the project – On time, within budget and maintaining scope.
* Provides a structured and practical method for managing change/scope to account for complex and often emergent customer needs.
* Provides a structured and practical method for managing project risks.
* Applies the appropriate life cycle (software, acquisition, strategy, construction) and components of that life cycle in conjunction with Client’s project management life cycle, based on the PMI PMBOK (Project Management Body Of Knowledge).
* Documents and receives sponsor and-or key stakeholder approval for exceptions to standards.
* Continues to implement and actively support Client’s Project Management Methodologies.
* Educate and market the Portfolio Management Office to Client, paying particular attention to the PMO benefits and services.
Application of PMI PMBOK standards to all projects:
* Initiation – Document project need and feasibility, then obtain project authorization. Initiate projects &/or project phases according to committed timelines. Prepare project budget and ROI (return on investment). Identify and involve the appropriate resources required to attend project kick-off meetings.
* Planning – Based on project size, develop project plans to define the scope of the project; develop communication plans; list activities and their sequencing; define resources; develop project schedule; identify risks and mitigation. Involve project team members in the appropriate parts of the planning process. Communicate plans to the project team, project sponsor and all stakeholders.
* Execute – Coordinate & negotiate (when necessary) the resources required to fulfill the plan. Report on project progress. Assess project team performance.
* Controlling – Monitor and measure progress by managing the project plans, budget, communication and documentation needed to implement the assigned projects. Track and resolve issues as soon as possible. Utilize Change Management Procedures on any changes to the project scope.
* Closing – Formally close out projects by obtaining sign-off from project sponsor, ensure on going support responsibilities are assigned, documentation is completed, resources are released, lessons learned are collected and recorded.
Application of Project Management Tools:
* Utilizes Client’s standard tools, including but not limited to: MS Project, MS Project Server and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint etc) to deliver assigned project(s).
Leadership: - Has overall responsibility and accountability to drive the project to success as defined by the project executive sponsor and key stakeholders. Manages project to deliver to time lines and reduce time to market. Uses operational and performance standards to ensure quality. Establish and manage project budget to meet agreed targets. Embrace and cultivate change within the organization.
* Vendor Management - Work with the Vendor Management Office to ensure policies and guidelines are met for vendor relations and procurement related to the project. Partners and drives vendors to complete the project on time and budget meeting quality standards and project objectives.
* Matrixed Management - Manages project resources for the project without direct line reporting authority. Gives performance improvement feedback to individuals and line managers as requested. Manages resources from business units, operations and IT Shared Services.
* Customer Service - Works closely with the Project Sponsor to facilitate decisions necessary for project delivery. Provides a coordinated and aligned interface between business sponsors and stakeholders at the project and organizational level, including development of appropriate communication plans.
* Business Knowledge - Knowledgeable in business processes and insurance industry.
Works with business analyst to develop or modify business processes to create solutions. Recommends changes of current processes or technologies to the business user to improve performance and/or reduce costs.
Required Skills
* Five plus years of project management.
* Understanding of project management and software/systems development lifecycles.
* PMI’s PMP certification or commitment to attain PMP certification.
* Three plus years using MS Project or equivalent.
Desired Skills
* Project Manager Professional Certification or equivalent
* Understanding of Insurance Industry knowledge, especially un-regulated insurance and or re-insurance.
* Five plus years Organizational Change Management
* Three plus years MS Project Enterprise Server and/or other enterprise portfolio/project management tools.
Non-Technical Skills
* High aptitude for learning new tools and skills quickly.
* Impeccable written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to communicate at all levels.
* Ability to influence without direct authority.
* Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
* Self motivated and directed.
Education:
College degree in Business Related Field and or Information Technology or relevant business related experience.
